MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated by 7 paise to 45.25 per US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, weighed down by dollar gains against other Asian currencies and a weak start in the stock market.
Forex traders said that dollar gains against other Asian currencies and a weak opening in the stock market mainly put pressure on the rupee.
The rupee fell by 18 paise to close at a one-week low of 45.18/19 yesterday amid weak equities and dollar firmness overseas.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 127.61 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 18,200.37 in early trade
