Ripun Bora case: New revelation
From our CorrespondentNEW DELHI, June 6: Giving a new twist to the Ripun Bora case, arrested journalist Mukul Pathak told reporters outside the Tis Hazari Court here today that two others, Diganta Saikia and Abhignyan Gogoi, had also been involved in the bribery episode.Pathak, after being produced in the court at around 3 pm today, has been remanded to one-day CBI custody by Special Judge VK Maheswari. Pathak was arrested by the CBI from the LGBI Airport in Guwahati for his alleged link with former Asom Education Minister and CBI officer AB Gupta, whom Bora allegedly offered bribes in a Delhi inn.Pathak told reporters at the court premises later that it was beyond his knowledge as to why the CBI arrested him alone, since two others — Diganta Saikia and Abhigyan Gogoi — had played the key role in linking Bora with the CBI official. Diganta is a surrender ULFA member residing in Koliabor, near to the Pathak’s residence at Samaguri. Gogoi, on the other hand, is a close relative of CBI official Gupta. According to sources, Abhigyan Gogoi’s father Nomal Gogoi, who is an Assam Police officer, has two wives and one of his wives is the sister of CBI official Gupta. According to Pathak, the CBI officer, through these two persons, claimed Rs 3.5 crore from Bora, which was later settled at Rs 17 lakh.Pathak further said he accompanied Bora to Delhi along with the Bora’s brother-in-law M Baruah on Monday on request from the former Asom Education Minister. However, Bora kept him at Room No. 701 of Luhiaj Hotel near Delhi airport and later told him to go back to Guwahati the next day, Pathak added. Meanwhile, CBI counsel BP Singh told reporters that Bora, along with his linkmen Ramesh Maheswari and Pathak, are scheduled to be produced in the court tomorrow. He hinted that the CBI is likely to cross examine them simultaneously. Bora and Maheswari have been kept in separate cells in the CBI headquarters. Bora’s wife and daughter met Bora in the CBI headquarters today.
